I am interested in moving to a college town in California, but the cost of housing is very high. I would like to move to a college town because it will offer varied cultural opportunities. I would also like to be in a town that has relatively good climate - but most importantly, affordable housing prices.

Probably anywhere in the central valley would be the lowest costs for housing... however remember even there it is not cheap!
