Best community college transfer school in California

Best community college transfer school in California?
I am planning to attend a community college in California for two years before transferring to another school. The transfer schools that I am interested in are highly competitive (UC Berkley, Stanford, UCLA etc...) and I am aware of the statistics. The community colleges that I am looking into are De Anza (Cupertino) and Cañada College (Redwood City). If you have attended either school, what was your experience like? Anyone have any other CC's in the area to suggest? Thank you!

Answer 1 :
If you are interested in Stanford, try Skyline College.
Answer 2 :
DeAnza has a better reputation for transfer success.
Answer 3 :
The California Postsecondary Education Commission has a great set of data on transfer rates of each California community college to the UCs and CSUs: http://www.cpec.ca.gov/OnLineData/TransferPathway.asp This may help you narrow down your choices.
Answer 4 :
De Anza is probably better. They offer more transferrable classes and you can get through them quicker because of the quarter system. College of San Mateo has more transfers than its college district partner (Canada) UCs want you to follow www.assist.org for the requirements for your major, have a high GPA, have at least 90 UC transferrable units completed (at DeAnza, its #1 to 49 classes) which is about 2 years anyways. You can follow the IGETC if you want, unless assist.org says otherwise. De Anza also has some transfer admission guarantee (TAG) with some UCs (not Berkeley and LA...nobody has one with them) that you can consider doing. Talk to the academic advisors there for more info. You can only sign 1 TAG though. Stanford has its own transfer requirements, so follow what you find on their site.

Answer 1 :
Any college can be affordable, depending on your aid package. A LOT of private schools are willing to throw money your way, to supplement the state and federal aid you receive. Don't rue them out....and, look at the smaller ones. Fewer apply, giving you less competition for their money!
Answer 2 :
$26 a unit for a city college so it's cheap. That's for residents though. I think it'd be triple for you. Rent here is expensive though - you'll all need jobs. I like the 3 Coastline colleges (Coastline, Golden West and Orange Coast) but have heard good things about Cypress , Fullerton and Santa Ana Colleges. By the way Orange Coast has the highest transfer rate in the state to cal-state universities and has more students than even UC Irvine. It's huge and will be going there next semester. Fullerton is huge too. With the state $20 billion in debt they're making it darn impossible for non-residents to get into or afford state colleges on our taxpayer dime, so start at the city college level.
Answer 3 :
Are you a California resident now? If so, about $14,000 a year each with living expenses to go to a Cal State school. If you are not a California resident, figure on about $28,000 each with living expenses. And that would be for a Cal State school, if you can get in. Otherwise, a private school will run you each about $35,000 to $45,000 a year each.
