How can I be a "resident" of California for college

How can I be a "resident" of California for college?
I want to go to college in California, but don't want to pay the outrageous nonresident fees because I live in Kansas. If I get an apartment in California the summer before college does that make me a resident? My grandparents live in Bakersfield, CA. Can I use their address?

Answer 1 :
Use your grandparents address. I used my Dad's friend's address to get into a California school and I live in Arkansas.
Answer 2 :
yeah you can ...if you get caught though you could get in pretty big trouble. and you have to live there for a full year in order to claim residency. so you could use your grandparents address for a little bit then after you have had your apartment for awhile ...switch the addresses but you are gonna have a problem with your high school cause they are gonna wonder why your high school is in kansas.
Answer 3 :
When my daughter and I tried to do this we were told you had to attend high school here in California for at least a year and preferably graduate from high school in California. California just cut hundreds of millions of dollars off their university systems budgets. The schools here are now getting super tight on making sure you really are a resident before offing in state rates. If your grade 12 transcript is from out of state, you will be charged out of state rates.
Answer 4 :
You must live in CA for one year before you can claim residency in CA. The easiest way to do this is to get a CA ID. But you would have to be here to do it. Good luck!

Can illegal students go to college In California

Can illegal students go to college In California?
I was just wondering if illegal immigrants CAN go to college in California, i heard it's easy for them but i'm not sure if they CAN or CAN'T go. Help Please!!! And if anyone has anymore details about this please let me know. Thank you! And can it be ANY college/university??? Not just community colleges?

Answer 1 :
Unfortunately, they can, and mostly at taxpayer expense. Because of a 2001 California law, illegal immigrants are charges average $12,000 per year (~$48,000 per undergrad degree) less tuition in state colleges than USA citizens and Green Card holders from other states. About 25,000 illegal immigrants attend California public colleges. Lower tuition paid by them costs the state ~$200 million per year. Put another way, tuition costs for legal residents are increased by $200 million per year to pay for the shortfall. It's a major scandal, and Obama hasn't said a word about California undermining federal immigration law, even though federal law prohibits education benefits for illegal immigrants.
Answer 2 :
Haven't heard any news regarding California lawmakers making a law saying they can't, so i guess they can. The schools might just classify them as international students, since they aren't legal residents.
Answer 3 :
i've heard people say they can

What are the chances of me (NYC) getting into a college in California

What are the chances of me (NYC) getting into a college in California?
My friend told me that there's a lesser chance of me getting into a college in another state. I want to go to Scripps College in California and I want to know if I still have a good chance of getting in.

Answer 1 :
Living in the same state that you want to go to college in definitely improves your chances; however, as long as you have good grades, extracurricular activities, and strong SAT scores, you still have a good chance!
Answer 2 :
Actually being from a different state can actually improve you chances in some cases. All colleges want a diverse student body. Take me for example. I'm from Massachusetts which has a lot of great schools. While a lot of these schools have a high percentage of students from New England, they still want the diversity. So while it may not matter too much, say if I was applying to Boston University, I may have a slightly higher chance at getting in if I was from Arizona than if I was from Massachusetts since there are already so many people from Massachusetts already applying. But really, it doesn't matter that much. If you have the grades, they'll want you and it won't matter if you are from New York or California. In fact, if it was down to you and someone from California with lower grades, they would pick you most likely. Does that make sense? What I'm trying to say is that schools want diversity and the school will get a lot of applicants from it's own state or surrounding ones, so it is usually better to be from a different state since you'll help diversify the campus. At the same time, it really does just come down to grades, and your application, although where you from may play some small part, it isn't the biggest deciding factor.
Answer 3 :
Scripps is a private college and state residency is not an admission factor. Although geographical residence is considered, that is not the same as in state residency. In the context of private colleges it usually means that the college wants a geographically diverse student body and possibly that it reserves a few spaces in the class for students who will commute from home.
