How hard would it be to get into a college in California?
I live in NY. and i really want to leave, im in high school right now and i was wondering what kind of grades, along with any other helpful attributes, could get me into a decent college in California. Especially the requirements for a good scholarship. im not quite sure on major id like to have just yet, but im inclined towards the more humanitarian side, such as history, writing, anthropology.

It depends on what you mean by a "decent college"...like are you thinking of schools like UCLA, Berkeley or Stanford? For those schools you would need a pretty high GPA, test scores, etc. They also look at your extracurricular activities; not necessarily how many you have but your level of involvement in each of them. Leadership looks really good, too. But since Berkeley and LA are public schools, they might have lower admit rates for non-californians...so you would have to be amazingly smart to get in. And if you're thinking of a CSU, some (like San Jose State) only accept students who are residents. If you're applying for need-based financial aid, your best bet would be a private institution. From what I've heard, UCs have horrible financial aid...they do offer merit scholarships, but I'm not sure how difficult they are to get (here's their scholarship website: http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/scholarships/schol_type.html) Stanford doesn't offer merit aid, but other private schools like UOP and USC do...basically you need to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA to qualify, but just because you qualify doesn't mean you'll actually get a scholarship.
